Who is this Reflexology course suitable for?

This Reflexology Diploma course is suitable for those wishing to qualify as a professional reflexologist but also for those who have a genuine interest in taking the basic understanding of Reflexology further. We do offer an Introduction to Reflexology course for those clients who would like a taster prior to taking an accredited qualification. This qualification can be attained within 4 - 6 months.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a form of bodywork that focuses primarily on the feet, but can also be used on the hands and ears. The theory behind Reflexology is that there are "reflex" areas on the feet and hands that correspond to specific organs, glands, and other parts of the body. For example:
tips of the toes reflect the head

  • the heart and chest are around the ball of the foot
  • the liver, pancreas and kidney are in the arch of the foot
  • low back and intestines are towards the heel

Reflexology is a very popular therapy and promotes relaxation, improves circulation, reduces pain, soothes tired feet and encourages overall healing. Reflexology is also often used for post-operative or palliative care. A typical treatment is 45 - 60 minutes including a consultation. The client removes only their shoes and socks and sits comfortably on a massage couch/table or reclining chair. The reflexologist will assess the feet stimulating various points to identify areas of tenderness or tension. Usually the reflexologist will begin with a warm up massage of the feet and then pressure is applied from the toes to the heel according to your comfort. Lotion or oil often is used to aid smooth movements. Practitioners believe that applying pressure to these reflex areas can promote health in the corresponding organs through energetic pathways.
