From 2012 The Academy will be running this qualification in replacement of the Certificate in Swedish Massage. This is in due to this being a higher level qualification and it also incorporates additional techniques & knowledge. It is VTCT QCF Diploma.  The credit value is also higher and it provides membership entry to the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) which the Certificate in Swedish Massage does not.

What is Body Massage?

Body Massage has its roots in Eastern Medicine and uses oil or talc. The massage routine covers the full body using the main massage techniques.  This is the UK's standard full body massage used throughout the industry and it also forms the basis for all advanced massage courses such as Sports Massage, Hot Stones Massage etc. It is particularly recognised for its ability to provide deep tissue and muscle relaxation and assist with joint mobility. Practitioners use a combination of gentle flowing massage along with friction, kneading, percussion and stimulation of pressure points, as well as stretching.

The aim of Body Massage is for the client to be able to move freely and without pain. As a therapist you will observe your clients posture and balance and will teach them stretching exercises to help maintain mobility. In addition to mobility and pain reduction, this can be very helpful for stress reduction, digestive problems including irritable bowel syndrome and constipation, as well as asthma, and bronchitis.

Units within this qualification have been mapped to the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS) and the qualification is accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) as well as being approved and supported by Skills for Health (the sector skills council for health).
