Course content
This course will provide you with the skills to obtain sufficient information from their clients and identify possible dangers and contraindications to sports massage, gain the knowledge and skills to be able to prepare for and applying a range of sports massage techniques and the skills to be able to deliver massage in a range of contexts e.g. injury treatment, conditioning, pre-competition, during competition, post-competition, post-travel.

- Relevant consultation
- Contra-indications
- Postural analysis
- Passive & active range of movement
- Massage pre & post event
- Advanced massage techniques for specific conditions
- Recognising posture deformities
- Remedial therapy for conditions of the - foot, ankle, knee, leg, torso, neck, hand, elbow & shoulder
- Joint & muscle function in physical activity
- Sports massage for musculo-skeletal injuries
- Effective after-care, common remedial conditions
- Stretching, strengthening, mobility & co-ordination exercises
- Refreshing relevant anatomy & physiology
- Working practice within a sports club
Entry qualifications
Please note that ALL candidates in advance of the course commencing, will, on booking be requested to complete an A&P assignment paper, which includes essential A&P knowledge for the Level 4 course entry (Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology). If you are able to evidence that you have covered all or some of this content previously you will be able to receive recognised prior learning (RPL), however, you will be requested to provide your evidence. Entry requirements for the Level 4 are as follows:

if you do not have a previous massage experience, you will be required to do the Pre-requisite to Sports Massage which is built in as the 1st 3 days of the L4 dates above and complete the A&P assignment, or complete the VTCT Diploma in Body Massage

be a holder of a minumum Level 3 massage qualification, or equivalent qualification and the complete A&P assignment above, or
-
a relevant medical or health & fitness/exercise qualification and complete the A&P assignment above, AND
-
there is a pre-requisite of a minimum 6 hours recognised qualification in Emergency or First Aid however, if you do not already hold such a qualification we run the Level 2 Award in 1st Aid.
How will I be assessed?
- Observed practical work
- Oral and written questions
- Written assignments
- Portfolio building - providing physical evidence and practical performance of 100hrs (which will include hours in college, at home and within a suitable sporting environment which you arrange yourself over the duration of the course).
